English Literature:
Medieval --
-
I love Chaucer
because he wrote fun and rather off-color tales but at the same time was
a very religious and thoughtful man who critiqued the corruptions of his
society.
-
I also love alliterative
poetry of the 14th century because of its use of allegory, its wit
and musical quality, and (believe it or not) its didacticism.
-
I am writing my dissertation on 2 well-known alliterative
poems, "Patience"
and "Cleanness."
Shakespeare
--
-
He is a god!!
-
My favorite play of all is Hamlet.
Jane
Austen --
-
She was a highly sensitive and witty 19th cent. novelist.
-
I can't decide between Pride and Prejudice
and Persuasion for my favorite novel.
Cadfael
--
-
A 12th century monk who also solves murders! Great
stories by Ellis Peters (aka Edith Pargeter); well played by Sir Derek
Jacobi on the PBS "Mystery!" series.
-
Favorite story so far: An Excellent Mystery.
Sherlock
Holmes --
-
THE definitive sleuth! There are too many great stories
to pick a favorite.
